Argghhhhh

February 11, 2005 by jameyt

I’m sounding a bit like Charlie Brown tonight. Something (my ISP) apparently grabbed my explorer toolbar and screwed with it. My usual toolbar buttons were gone, replaced by big icons. The familiar buttons at the top (file, edit, view, favorites, tools, help) disappeared, so when I wanted to go to my favorite websites, I didn’t get the pulldown menu, just that sidebar with the large icons.

I’m one of about 7 people still on dial-up. I want and need to get roadrunner, but don’t want to pull the trigger on doubling my internet service price. But tonight may have pushed me over the top. I’ve got People PC, something I’ve been using since I bought an old computer from my old employer. I used to get a 50.4 connection consistently, but lately I’m lucky to dialup a 48.8. It’s been okay since I don’t download music or watch videos online, but updating my website at those speeds has been a hassle.

I don’t have cable tv, I use Direct TV which I’ve been very happy with up until now. But I also want HDTV, would love to have it in time for the Daytona 500 in a couple of weeks. To get that on DTV I’d have to buy a $300 HD receiver and another dish. Time Warner Cable would give me HD for just 7 extra bucks a month. But if I do cable I won’t be able to get all of the channels I get now for the same low price, cable’s more expensive, period.

The builders should be pouring the slab for our new home soon. It’s been too wet and muddy for them to even stake out the lot, hopefully they’ll get to it by next week. The house is going to be great. Bedrooms for each of the kids, a playroom for them and an office for me. If things go well we could be in it by the end of June.

I didn’t have an extremely busy day today (thursdays and fridays are best for writing and editing and napping). I did shoot another segment for a church project and I edited another segment. I had a good workout at the gym, watched some of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and…I took a nap.

You know I used to find myself reading dozens of newspapers online but lately I’ve gotten into reading blogs. I always check out Peggy’s blog, the new memphis tv blog (I hope it gets better) and Half-Bakered, a great blog on Memphis media, politics and whatever Mike has on his mind. I miss South TV News, the author there chickened out and ended the blog after someone from a Memphis tv station started poking around, trying to figure out who was behind it.

Tomorrow will be another good day to write, edit, watch golf on tv, workout and nap.

A friend called tonight to ask me about the videographers job I turned down. They advertised it again in last Sunday’s paper in case you know someone who’s interested.
