Blog Goneit

October 5, 2005 by jameyt

South TV News has apparently gone away for good.

I swapped e-mails with the guy behind the website and he says because of the stress it has caused him, he’s pulled the plug, probably for the last time.

I don’t know who this guy is. I know a year or so ago when he first took down the website, it was because a tv ownership group started snooping around to find out who he was.

By the way, isn’t it interesting how a tv station feels it’s perfectly acceptable to chase someone down a city sidewalk or hide a camera to catch them doing something they shouldn’t be doing, yet they are quick to put a kibosh or a muzzle on anyone saying anything negative ABOUT THEM?

I remember a couple of years ago when one station ambushed a man outside a Wal-Mart and grilled him on why the American flag on his car had become tattered. When he tried to walk away, they followed closely shouting “don’t you know it’s against the law to keep a flag that’s been torn up? Don’t you know you should burn that flag and replace it with a new one?”

I remember feeling sorry for that man. I was also embarrassed that my station would send a reporter out to do that story, or at least do it that way.

So now, someone’s said something negative about a station, and they’ve pressured them into shutting up and shutting it down. Darrell Phillips’ blog is gone too (without explanation).

Are the critics being silenced?
