I’m in between projects this week. Waiting on script approval for the saddle company and waiting on the final two shoots for the Zoo project. So, while I wait I’m diving into our family Christmas video.
Since 1993 I have put together a “Year in Review” video that covers just about every experience we had during those 365 days. On Christmas Eve we watch each and every one of them leading up to the new one.
It has become our favorite Christmas tradition as we relive all of our favorite moments, vacations, birthday parties and funny moments in our lives. There’s the one when Lauren sings “Holly Jolly Christmas” with the wrong words and then innocently reveals her mother’s secret Christmas present. There’s the one when Trey was born. The one where both Delaney and Trey had chicken pox at Christmas. And the one where Delaney takes her first step.
As we watch the videos we see how much and how fast the children have grown. We see clips of every Halloween costume, every birthday cake and every big event in our lives. We see the houses we used to live in, the first time Lauren rode a bike without training wheels, Trey’s first hit in a baseball game and Delaney’s dance recitals.
The videos usually run around 15-20 minutes and I add music and graphics to remind us of what we were doing. Every video is precious to me. I suppose if our house caught fire and there was only one thing I could take out, I would take the DVD binder that contains them all.
So today, I’m going through my old record albums looking for the perfect song. I’m sorting about 4 hours of video and hundreds of photos taken over the past 365 days. It’s a fun project and my favorite Christmas gift.
