That’s the word my former co-workers heard today and late Friday after the NYT made its exit. Hey…thanks. And don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Staff meetings have been held and employees who are left were told the ax will not swing again.
10 firings at KFSM
11 at WHNT
WTKR and KFOR were hit hard too but I didn’t get the total numbers. Both general managers at those stations were canned, including Tim Morrisey, once one of the bright stars on his way up the NYT ladder.
Word is that many employees took the forecast of no other firings with a grain of salt. Morale is said to be down in the newsrooms and who can blame them? In Huntsville, the longtime director of both the 6 and 10 was fired leaving the station with only two directors during the important May sweeps. Double duty for the remaining directors. Seven days a week.
This isn’t intended to be gossip but I’ve gotten several e-mails today asking for the latest word. Some of these e-mails come from points way beyond the reach of the these signals. They come from former employees who are concerned about their former co-workers.
