It’s one of the most important parts of a news story. A bad edit job (no creativity) can drag down even the best and most informative news story. Of course many times the editor/photographer doesn’t have time to be too creative with the edit. They have to wait their turn for one of the 3 (working) edit bays to open up and then there’s the 2 or 3 teases they have to cut, the vo/sot and vo for the other shows.
Sweeps pieces, the “special reports” now airing in November are different. Photographers and editors have more time to spend on these projects and that’s the case with the story airing in Minneapolis last Friday night.
The story, an investigative piece on the Minnesoto Vikings party boat is one of the most creative editing jobs I’ve seen on local tv. I’m anxious to try some of the techniques out myself.
