Anybody see the Happy Days special? It was one of those reunion shows where the stars come back, show a few clips and reminisce about all the fun they had while shooting the shows.
I was a big Happy Days fan at the time it was on the air. I was in the 5th grade when it debuted on Tuesday nights and I remember all the kids talking about it on wednesday mornings. Like most shows, it was great when it started, peaked and then headed downhill. Happy Days even gave us the term “Jump the Shark” as when a tv show is never as good as it once was. (remember the episode when Fonzi jumped the shark on water-skis?)
Tonight’s show was kind of good, but then jumped the shark quickly. Producers would have done better by making it a total clip show instead of spending so much time on a reunion softball game and not-very-funny bloopers.
Why didn’t they give us more trivia and answer a few questions. What ever happened to Chuck Cunningham? Remember Richie’s older brother who was a basketball star and often shot hoops in his room and in the driveway?
(I can relate to Chuck Cunningham. I was on tv one day and off the next and no one ever said anything about what happened to me).
Happy Days turned 30. It’s now been off the air longer than the time span between when it was on the air, and the era it represented. This makes me feel old. Do you realize that Happy Days was about the 50’s and early 60’s when it hit ABC in 1975? That means a show today about 1989 would be as nostalgic to our kids as Happy Days was to us.
