Day 7 with a kidney stone. The lithotripsy didn’t break up the stone so I was back in the hospital early this morning for surgery.
I have never been in so much pain as I was this morning. It woke up me at 3am and didn’t let up until they gave me an intraveous pain killer at sometime after 7.
I’m always amused by some of the questions the nurse asks before they perform whatever surgery they’re going to do to you.
They ask: Do you have AIDS or HIV? Have you ever had cancer? Gallstones? Acid reflux? Heart disease? Heart attack? Stroke? Diabetes? Malaria? Shingles? Herpes? Athletes foot?
I think they ask you all of those questions, just to make you feel better. “I’ve got a pain in my side from a kidney stone, but look how much worse it could be?”
They broke up the stone with a laser, put in a stent and sent me home to pass the stone fragments. 12 hours later…nothing.
I’ll be out of work until at least Tuesday.
Boy I’ll be glad when this is over.
I feel for you Jamey. I gave birth to a kidney stone on July 15, 2000.
